Review of Lava Xolo A1000

These days, manufacturers like Samsung and Sony have made their high-end wares available in India so that consumers can get access to the best and latest in the world of mobiles. Also, manufacturers like Micromax and Karbonn are targeting the budget crowd with a bevy of low-cost mobiles. Lava Mobiles, another Indian manufacturer, has managed to bridge the two segments with the launch of the Lava Xolo A1000. The reason behind maintaining the price low is to grab the mid-range market and provide users with all the features that a costlier smartphone possesses. Same is the case with the Xolo A1000, as it looks to contend with the big boys and carve out a niche for itself. Let us give a look to the new Xolo A1000.

Main features of the mobile are:

·         Android Jelly Bean 4.1.2
·         1 GHz dual core processor
·         8 MP rear camera with BSI technology and 1.2 MP secondary cameras
·         5 inch IPS touch screen with an HD screen resolution of 1280 X 720
·         Dual-SIM

Processor, storage and RAM:

We all know that Xolo X900 and X500 were based on Intel X86 processor technology, however, the A1000 takes a different route by containing a MediaTekMT6577 chipset that is with a PowerVR SGX531 GPU and a 1 GHz dual-core CPU. It has an internal storage of 4 GB which can be extended to 32 GB. The 1 GB RAM makes the entire UI fluid and also ensures that multi-tasking is a cinch.

Screen:

Currently, mobile manufacturing firms are focusing on giving HD displays with larger screens because consumers demand a vivid screen and are more likely to grab a large phone that is slim and rich with features. Xolo A1000 is built on these grounds by offering users a nice HD resolution on its 5-inch touch screen. Furthermore, in this phone, Lava has used One Glass Solution that is responsible for giving users a clearer view in terms of viewing angles and also brings the touch-sensitivity to such a high extent that it has not been seen in mobiles of this category before.

Dimensions and build quality:

Lava has tried to provide us with a phone that is sleek, and as such has focused on increasing the length and ensuring that the width is kept shorter as compared to other smartphones. This makes the phone handy and easy to hold. The large display of 5 inches is adjusted in a cozy way and it does not look difficult to carry.  The design is sleek and simple. You will see no brand name on the front and on the back a glossy Xolo is imprinted that gives users the look and feel of mobiles that are much more costly than the Xolo A1000. Talking about the buttons, there are only three buttons on the lower front and those are for navigational elements like back, home and multitask.

Sensors and Cameras:

Xolo A1000 also has the common sensors that other Android devices possess these days and that are the accelerometer, ambient light sensors and proximity sensors. Along with the sensors, you would see the front camera not a VGA; it is 1.2 MP and is good enough to take some nice images as well as do HD video chats. The main camera of the phone is 8 MP and features a lot of tweaks and enhancements. A new BSI-sensor is included in the phone that gives you clearer and better pictures even in dim light conditions. If you are just going to buy a smartphone for camera, you will see that the Xolo A1000 is giving other mobiles a run for their money.

Battery and Connectivity:

The Li-ion 2100 mAh battery on Xolo A1000 is better than other smartphones in this range, with the size of battery being almost similar to the one included in the Samsung Galaxy Grand. The battery is large enough that the device lasts an entire day of heavy usage. In terms of connectivity, 3G, Wi-Fi, Bluetooth 4.0 and micro-SD ensure that it stays current with other mobiles in this category.

Conclusion

Overall, the A1000 offers a lot of features and is a better bet when seen against other budget Android mobiles available in the market today. Lava has done a stellar job with the Xolo series, and with the A1000 being on offer for just Rs. 13,999, it is evident that it is going to sell well.
