Karbonn Titanium S9: Will this be the Canvas 4 contender?

Canvas 4 has been eagerly awaited by many smartphone enthusiasts as Micromax on a roll recently, thanks in part to its previous Canvas HD release. However, there are quite a lot of people disappointed with the Canvas 4, since it is barely above its predecessor and a lot more expensive as well, floating the question as to why to buy the Canvas 4 when you can get a better device for much less. This is where the Karbonn Titanium S9 from the other Indian manufacturer Karbonn Mobiles could give Canvas 4 a run for its money.

Regarding the smartphones, day by day new models are released and engineers are always wondering on which aspect they should focus next to improve. In both cases, there has been attention given to the front cameras, which are at 5 MP. It’s worth mentioning that it’s quite hard to differentiate the two models and that those differences actually show up in small, but possibly significant details. Both have an IPS touch display of at least 5 inches. While Canvas 4’s 5-inch screen is smaller than Karbonn Titanium S9’s 5.5-inch one, it sports a Corning Gorilla Glass 2 display protection, which can’t be said about the Karbonn Titanium S9 as well.

As estimated, they run Android Jelly Bean, with a 1.2 GHz MediaTek quad core processor, having 1GB RAM, which is more than enough. These two phones even have the same about of Megapixels - 13 MP. Both phones can do HD video recording, even sporting the same features, however, Micromax Canvas 4 has an extra advantage with its BSI sensors meant to increase the quality of the pictures taken in low light. While there is no difference between these two regarding the space, same can be said about the expandable memory up to 32GB through MicroSD card slots.

In the connectivity department, there is dual SIM, Wi-Fi, Bluetooth, 3G, MicroUSB and GPS features on both mobiles. When it comes to battery, Titanium S9 has the winning hand, thanks to its 2600 mAh battery which is more powerful than the 2000 mAh one sported by Canvas 4, thus offering more time talk and stand-by time.

One area where there is a clear difference is the price. Micromax Canvas 4 price in India is currently at Rs. 17,999, whereas the Titanium S9 is priced at Rs. 19,990. Still, selling the Titanium S9 at a price higher than its contender Canvas 4 doesn't necessarily mean that it is the end for them. As mentioned earlier, the small details make the difference. For an extra Rs. 2,000, the Titanium S9 will bring you a bigger display, a more powerful battery and a G-sensor, proximity sensor and ambient light sensor.

Both establishments have their fair share of costumers, thanks to their establishment of quality products and it looks likely that they will continue their good run thanks to the burgeoning market. It will be interesting to see which one will start elevating its game and release more than just a slightly enhanced version of a previous smartphone.
